The magnificent Pamukkale… The historical site of a wonderful natural phenomenon, totally unique in the world. You will visit an ancient city Hierapolis, an open air museum where we pass through an ancient graveyard containing over 1000 sarcophagies. The ruins of Hierapolis are attractive. The city was founded in 190 B.C. by Eumenes II, king of Pergamon. In the 2^nd and 3^rd centuries A.D. it reached the height of its developpement as a Roman thermal bath center. Next to the Temple to Apollo is a sacred area a deep hole in the ground (known as Platonium) that used to emit noxious fumes which the priests said the fatal to all except themselves.  Then onwards towards Pamukkale (cotton Castle) which is a shimmering cascade, formed by limestone laden hot springs, which have stalactites some 100 m high. The water cures rheumatism, asthma and dermatitis. Pamukkale is an extraordinary natural wonder. The mineral-rich waters rises from the ground at the temperature 35C and tumble down the mountain from a height of 100 m, forming a myriad of pools. This wonderful ensemble creates a breathtaking sight unique in the world.
